You're Not Lazy
Are you someone who feels deeply, senses emotions intensely, or thinks about complex situations all the time?
Are you someone who has trouble focusing because of how intensely you feel it?
You're not lazy. You're not somebody who's not disciplined either, or you're not somebody who delays stuff.
Something keeps disturbing you, it doesn't allow you to focus, and it's not really a person. You blame yourself. You criticize yourself even without understanding that the reason for your lack of focus could be your high sensitivity levels.
An average person processes information at X rate. But a person who is highly sensitive can process information at a five X or even 10 X rate, which makes it challenging for them to focus. It can get painful too, if they do not know about their high sensitivity levels, have an understanding of it, understand how to cope with it, or what tools to use to manage it.
High sensitivity could feel like a curse for some too. It could feel as though intense high emotions are the culprit for a lack of focus. One can also feel as though lack of motivation is the culprit for lack of focus, but that's not true.
Your sensitivity is actually your superpower.
So, why is it that two people who are sensitive or highly sensitive have trouble focusing?
The first reason is that they have a different nervous system. Their nervous system functions differently. It's more delicate. It processes information very deeply, very finely.
Secondly, people with higher sensitivity levels need time to process information. And when we pile up tasks in a short amount of time and expect our brain to process it without really having the coping strategies in place to manage that pile, we can feel overwhelmed. So, as highly sensitive people, especially if you're just finding out, you need to give yourself a lot of time to process information to be gentle with your nervous system.
Thirdly, highly sensitive people are highly aware, which means they can be highly aware of the emotional charge that they're feeling inside their body, the energetic charge that they're feeling inside their energy field, and that in itself can be overwhelming. It can scare us because we don't know why we are feeling so deeply and intensely.
We feel like we are different. This is not right, and that is not true either.
What looks pathological is the way a sensitive or highly sensitive person's nervous system is supposed to function. It's just that we are not aware of how to utilize that gift in that moment. Which is why, everything feels so overwhelming, and then we lose focus.
Now, what can you do about it?
Tip number one
You can choose spaces that are compatible with your nervous system. I personally, as a highly sensitive person, have been visiting cafes since I was 18-years old. I have a background in dentistry. I disliked my college study rooms because they weren't compatible with my nervous system or sensitivity levels.
So, I would go to cafes and do my dental practical work. Of course, it wasn't any work related to patients, but I did my non-clinical work in cafes because that's the environment that suited my nervous system. I needed that warm lighting, the ambient sound to work and focus.
So, similarly, you might need a space that's compatible with your nervous system. Think of the last time you were in a space that made you feel calmer, that made you feel as though you're safe, or that made you feel comforted. That could be a space you can start experimenting with while checking if your nervous system feels more settled in a different space.
Tip number two
You can take small breaks in between longer tasks. So, if you're working for an hour, you can slice that one hour into many small breaks. You can make them tiny treats for yourself so you can work for 15-minutes, rest for two, work for 15-minutes, and then rest for two.
An app that can help you with it is Focus Keeper.
It helps you work for a set period of time. You can set the alarm for a specific time, and it reminds you to take a break too. It's a great way to give yourself a mental break and a nervous system pause, if you may.
Tip number three
Surround yourself with people who are compatible with your nervous system. Now, these people might not necessarily be highly sensitive or as sensitive as you are, but if you reflect on all the people in your life, you would notice that some people make your nervous system feel safer. They make your nervous system feel less at work, and there will be some people who will make your nervous system put in a lot of effort.
So, distance yourself from those people. Keep the people who are complementary to your nervous system close to you, because that would also help you with your sensitivity levels. It'll help you feel safer and less overwhelmed.
Tip number four
Paint!
As an intuitive abstract artist and a coach, I recommend abstract art painting to clients. I assure you that painting can clear out thoughts, energy, and emotions that make a highly sensitive person overwhelmed, Especially if you're in your initial stages of understanding your high sensitivity or sensitivity levels or emotions or energy, or thoughts. You might find that painting aids in your education about yourself. It could become the DIY self-love work you require, and it could be your perfect healing tool too.
It's creative. It's not time-consuming. It's not expensive.
And it can look very beautiful.
So, invest in being creative!
Tip number five
You can allow yourself to rest more. And here, by resting more, I don't mean sleeping more necessarily, but instead doing things that give your nervous system a break.
For example, being with plants, playing with snails, or holding a warm cup of tea are breaks for my nervous system. So, identify these tiny breaks that are easily accessible. These activities must have worked for you and your nervous system in the past and can help you focus better, get clearer in your thoughts, and then eventually jump to the next task.
So, those were some tips to help you manage your higher sensitivity levels, so that you can focus better.
I'd like to share that there are many people around the world who are sensitive and highly sensitive. You're not the only one. I am highly sensitive, and it has been a while since I found out. I kept working on myself, educating myself, and trying out different tools to support myself.
And now, I'm in a position where I can educate others. So, make sure you educate yourself about your sensitivity, because then it can become your superpower.
Wouldn't you want that?

Working With Me: Coaching for Sensitive People

Hello, I am Pranita Rao. I work with sensitive individuals, highly sensitive people, creatives, healers, and spiritual seekers who want a soft and private space to express themselves and understand their sensitivity without labels, heaviness, or emotional confusion.
There is no spiritual identity required. No artistic credentials required. This is a clear space to think, feel, create, and move forward.
My work combines sensitivity, art, creative expression, emotional clarity, simple structures, energy healing, angelic Reiki, intuitive reading, and guidance.
As for my experience, I have four years of experience working with angelic beings, three years of experience working with art, and I have supported many individuals by holding a grounded, honest, and safe space.
My clients learn how to regulate sensitivity, gain emotional clarity, set energetic boundaries, and make consistent decisions despite internal or external challenges.
Please note that understanding that you are highly sensitive is an important first step, but awareness alone does not create stability. What creates change is learning how to work with your sensitivity in a structured, consistent way.
In my work, I support sensitive and highly sensitive individuals through a simple and grounded framework. First, we identify how your sensitivity shows up emotionally, creatively, and energetically in daily life. Second, we build emotional clarity and regulation so you are no longer absorbing what does not belong to you. Third, we learn about your unique creative gifts and create sustainable boundaries, creative practices, and decision-making structures that support your nervous system rather than overwhelm it.
This approach helps sensitive people move from constant emotional processing to emotional steadiness, from confusion to clarity, and from self-neglect to self-trust. The intention is not to change who you are, but to help your sensitivity function as a strength rather than a source of exhaustion.
This work is designed for individuals who are ready to move beyond learning and into implementation. Sensitive people often consume a lot of information but delay applying it. My role is to provide a steady, structured space where insight turns into change.
If you are at a stage where you are no longer seeking validation but seeking regulation, direction, and results, this work may be aligned for you.
