How can highly empathetic people benefit from self-empathy, balance, and abstract art?

A set of stones describing the need for balance for highly sensitive people.
Self-empathy and balance for highly sensitive people

We all understand the meaning of empathy, but please let me share research views about empathy. It could strengthen your perspective about your empathetic skills, especially if you are a highly sensitive person.

Research suggests that empathy is a quality that helps one understand the subtleties of others life experiences. Although it might seem like a simple quality, it can play a crucial role in helping one understand and feel for others, giving rise to higher compassion levels too. Research suggests that empathetic people utilize their cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and moral skill sets to perceive and react to people living with problems. Compassion, on the other hand, is a more delicate response to someone’s problems. Self-empathy is another term that must be addressed for highly sensitive people. Given our higher empathy levels, it is easier for us to be burnt out, giving rise to a situation where we might not be able to empathize with others.

I believe that self-empathy can help us with balance. As highly sensitive people, we may experience an imbalance in watering ourselves and others. For example, yesterday, I went to an open mic, wherein a talented poet read letters about his ex-girlfriend. Although I was taken aback by his writing, I couldn’t help but empathize with his life challenges as an empath. By the end of the show, I felt overwhelmed. As a countermeasure, I left the event early to recuperate. This is a simple example of how highly sensitive people with high empathy levels can experience overwhelm but also use simple strategies to water themselves immediately.

Abstract art is an easy way to water our self-empathy levels, especially to regain balance. The stones in this artwork remind us that we may have many colorful experiences that could keep us in balance and sometimes, throw us off our center. The external chaos can be unavoidable, my friend. However, it is beneficial to return to our paints and abstract thinking ways. I say that because paints, non-linear strokes, and a self-empathetic attitude can help us feel like we deserve balance in our world.

So, dear empathetic soul, water yourself. I am sure that you deserve it!

Pranita
