Creative radar: How can you recognise it as a highly sensitive person?

Creative radar of a highly sensitive person

Dear highly sensitive and artistic soul,

I wanted to create a blog post with a personal touch today. So, I am writing you a letter.

I wonder if you resonate with it. I wonder if your problem is the same as mine.

This morning, I sat down with my canvas sheet to paint to create an abstract artwork for today’s blog post. I wanted to share my perspective about having a creative radar through the artwork in this post. I drew the paintbrush and created semi-circles to represent signals. I thought it would be an apt representation of a creative radar, artistically.

However, I began having doubts after looking at my semi-circles.

‘They aren’t proper semi-circles,’ I said to myself.

‘What will my audience think about my art?’ I asked myself.

‘What if I’m not good at art?’ I asked myself.

'Do I make a new artwork?' I asked myself.

A gentle thought told me to leave the canvas sheet as it was and to avoid repainting. It was my creative radar. I could notice it. It told me to revisit my thoughts about my art in the evening.

Now, I see the beauty of the situation.

My job as an educational blogger is to motivate my audience to not be perfect. Rather, it is to encourage highly sensitive artists to be imperfect and make the perfect abstract art. Here, by perfect, I mean to make abstract art that is true to oneself. It could just be a big scribble on a piece of paper and yes, it could still be beautiful. I say that because what matters is what the art means to you and your creative radar. The rest of it is temporary.

Your relationship with your creative radar is permanent

As a highly sensitive person, I believe that highly sensitive people are more in tune with their creative radars. We have a knack to use and notice it in subtle ways. It might show up when you are deciding your outfit for the day or when you are looking at a piece of art. It might show up as a voice, gently, guiding you to pick up a brush when there is a dull moment in your life. It could show up as an advertisement in the newspaper about a sip and paint event, or it can guide you when you are in an art shop!

Your creative radar is yours. It is gentle, kind, polite, loving, and nurturing. Your creative radar is in you.

Have you noticed it before?

It doesn’t judge you or your art.

It loves it when you love abstract art.

It loves it when you make any kind of art.

It loves you for making abstract art that speaks to you (truly) and not to the world.

It simply loves you for being you.

As a highly sensitive person, I often feel weighed down by other people and situations. There could be uncontrollable situations trying to control my plans. On most days, life is unpredictable; people are unpredictable.

I’ve spent many years trying to change myself, people, and tough circumstances. Sometimes, my attempts were supported but sometimes they weren’t supported. However, I’ve recognised my creative radar to support me. I assure you that you have a creative radar that will always support you.

Please give your creative radar a chance to support you!

You can start recognising it by saying hello to it.

Let us say hello to it together: hello, my creative radar!

-3, 2, 1, Cheers,

Pranita
