The Sacred Gifts of Highly Sensitive People
If you’ve ever been told you’re ‘too sensitive,’ this message is for you.
What if your sensitivity was never a weakness but a hidden intelligence?
What if the way you feel deeply, think deeply, and care deeply is actually a genetic advantage?
Highly Sensitive People don’t just feel more. They perceive more, process more, and understand more.
As a highly sensitive person, one could:
notice energy shifts others ignore.
feel emotions before words are spoken.
sense danger before it appears.
see beauty where others see nothing.
Highly sensitive person could often feel as though they are broken, but they are actually finely tuned.
The world could appear fast-moving to a sensitive person, making them feel weak. However, they are neurologically wired for depth.
And today, I’m going to share 10 impactful strengths that highly sensitive people carry. These could be the gifts that the world might not have taught sensitive souls to appreciate, but their inner selves and inner child's knew that these gifts were sacred.
Gift number 1
Deep empathy – You feel what others feel without being told. Have you ever heard someone's traumatic story and felt great degrees of empathy, so much so that their pain felt like yours?
Well, Dr. Judith Orloff, a scientist mentions in her book 'The empaths survival guide' that sensitive individuals could be empaths, that is, they could have a special mirror neuron system that mirrors the pain of others, which could make them feel like others pain is their own, which could create great degrees of empathy for others.
Gift number 2
Emotional intelligence – You understand emotional dynamics intuitively. Highly sensitive people can sense their own and others emotions. They can sense the quality of emotions, which can make them more perceptive to understanding people, situations, animals, and plants more easily. Highly sensitive people can use higher levels of emotional intelligence to listen to others empathetically and also choose careers in the healing industries, hence become coaches, doctors, healers, or teachers.
Gift number 3
Creative intelligence – Highly sensitive people can use their high levels of perceptions, understanding, imagination, and processing levels to come up with creative ideas for complex situations. Vincent Van Gogh, Alanis Morissette, Isaac Newton, and Martin Luther King Jr. were all highly sensitive. They used their creative intelligence in their professions and as leaders to overcome challenges that had a high emotional influence in their lives. So, if you are highly sensitive, I hope you are using your creative intelligence.
Gift number 4
High intuition – Highly sensitive people are highly intuitive, which makes them aware of threats before time, and it also helps them recognise opportunities where there seem none. Highly sensitive people can be naturally intuitive, whereas many individuals need to learn to develop their intuition.
Gift number 5
Deep processing – You think deeply, reflect deeply, and perceive meaning others miss. Highly sensitive people can process information more finely and deeply. You would often find a highly sensitive person reflecting and journaling about life in a cafe or after work. Highly sensitive people need headspace and time to analyse situations, make keen observations, and respond uniquely.
Gift number 6
Strong compassion – You naturally want to heal, help, and protect others. Highly sensitive people choose professions where they can heal, protect, or guide others, so that they can use their compassion levels for the benefit of society. Their compassion levels can make people in need feel seen, heard, and understood, especially people who are in traumatic situations.
Gift number 7
Subtle perception – You notice micro-details, shifts in tone, mood, and energy. Highly sensitive people can pick up on details that others could miss. These details could be micro-details like smell, taste, colors, words, specific shifts in tone, mood, weather, emotions, and energy.
Gift number 8
Moral integrity – Highly sensitive people can be extremely ethical and hold strong morals, to the point that it could tick off others and make them feel alienated, as if no one understands them, supports them, or wants to work with them. I identify as a highly sensitive person, and there have been so many times when people have walked out of my life or have done something for me to walk out of those relationships because they weren't speaking the truth, being polite, or being respectful to me or others.
Gift number 9
Healing presence – Highly sensitive people can have an energy that can calm others without effort. Their energy can soothe others or make others feel safe. This often comes because they naturally have healing thoughts and emotions towards different species in the world.
Gift number 10
Spiritual sensitivity – Highly sensitive people have a strong connection to their angels.
They can feel, sense, see, hear, and understand them easily. This is because their natural gifts can help them connect with their angels from an early age.
Let's meet someone who is highly sensitive and has utilised their gifts to their advantage
Elaine Aron — Researching Sensitivity as a Gift
Elaine Aron, an American scientist, has built a platform for highly sensitive people globally. Along with her husband, she has researched the genetic trait of highly sensitive people since the 90s. She has published many books, research papers, and has also done interviews speaking about the trait.
When I looked her up yesterday to gather information for this blog post, I found that she could have utilised her empathy, information processing gifts, and writing gifts to educate the public and raise awareness surrounding the challenges of highly sensitive people.
As a former dentist, I can acknowledge that scientific work requires the capacity to reflect and study fine details. It also requires one to be innovative and imaginative. I assume that Elaine Aron could have utilised her highly sensitive gifts of creative thinking too for accomplishing her scientific accolades.
Elaine has a website (hsperson.com), and it has helpful content for sensitive souls looking for information about their health and sensitivity levels. It is difficult to build an educational platform about sensitivity (and I attest to it, as I manage four of them today). If one isn't empathetic by nature, they wouldn't have been able to sustain a long career in the field of education about highly sensitive people.
It is my understanding that because she looks at her strengths as gifts, she has been able to inspire many around the world and encourage them to look at their gifts as gifts and not a challenge.
So, if you're someone who wasn't aware of your sensitive nature and highly sensitive gifts, I would be happy if you could embrace yourself.
This space encourages sensitive souls, highly sensitive souls, individuals with artistic and angelic gifts, and curious readers.
